Unlike my previous project, this subtitle file was too large for it to be practical to convert it by-hand, so it seemed faster to write a program to do it for me. 5Kplayer was able to download the subtitles in VTT format. You need subtitles to watch this documentary because it includes interviews with the Japanese publisher. Later I discovered a couple of very good YouTube downloader programs (WinX, 5Kplayer) which allowed me to finally download a specific documentary created by My Life in Gaming which talks about the company: M2. The video editing program I was using (CyberLink PowerDirector 16) natively had the ability to export SRT files, and the formats were simlar enough that I could manually modify the SRT file into a VTT file by-hand in a text editor. These files turned out to be very similar to the SRT subtitle files you typically see distributed as fan-translations for anime series. I learned that web browsers support subtitles in HTML5 using VTT files. I had some recent experience with the process of adding subtitles to videos while creating a video tutorial about sprite anti-aliasing for my website and. I created this program using Flash because that's what I have the most programming experience with and it would be trivial to convert this Flash program into a highly compatible EXE. FFmpeg requires SRT subtitles in order to mux them into a MP4 file without needing to recompress it. YouTube stores its subtitles as VTT files. I wanted to convert a YouTube video with subtitles into a MP4 file with a separate subtitle track. I made this program because I needed to convert VTT subtitles into SRT. FFmpeg might complain but it will still successfully mux the resulting SRT file into an existing MP4 video file. The conversion isn't perfect because SRT files normally use only 2 digits to represent milliseconds. Pasting text in the right side generates text for the left side. Pasting text in the left side generates text for the right side. This program allows you to convert subtitle files between VTT and SRT. The software is included in this archive.
